PURPOSE OF THIS GUIDE
This guide is designed to assist anyone who will be managing a “2.0 Learning – 23 Things” professional development program. Although we had no guidebook and problem-solved as we went along, we hope this guide will make it easier for you as you manage the course for a group of people from 6-600. We assume you have worked through the course yourself, and encourage you to take or tweek our guidelines to suit your group. If you have suggestions for improving the guide, please let us know! Contact us at CSLA2team@yahoo.com.
All we ask in return are:
- Acknowledge the California School Library Association and link to our professional development page at http://www.csla.net/
- If you or your participants need continuing education or academic credit, please register with Fresno Pacific University. Participants receive (2) credit units for completing the 23 Things. To Sign Up for Credits, please send an email to Liz.dodds@gmail.com with “School Library Learning” in the subject line to activate Fresno Pacific credits for this program. Liz will be your primary “online instructor” to verify work completed and help you to register for the units.
The CSLA 2.0 Team modified the Learning 2.0 program designed by Helene Blowers, who was Technology Director, Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County in 2006. It is also loosely based upon Stephen Abram's article, 43 Things I (or You) might want to do this year (Information Outlook, 2/2006). We also drew from the SJlibrarylearning2 program offered by San Jose State University Library and San Jose Public Library joint development team. The online program’s design is built on Web 2.0 technologies that are freely available on the Internet. These sites include Blogger, WordPress, Yahoo! Avatars, Flickr, YouTube, PBWiki, Google Reader, and many more cool tools. Links and new cool tools are checked and added throughout the year. We have offered the courses for five years.
The CSLA 2.0 Team enhanced the course especially for K-12 educators by adding curriculum connections, avatars, a curriculum-focused wiki and a commitment for 2.0 Team leaders and participants to cheer one another along.
